A Beautiful Friday in Alsace
Bonjour,
It’s a gorgeous day in Alsace enhanced by delicious food and a visit from more cousins, Marie-Josee and Jean-Paul who live in another small town near Alsace called Beaume-les-Dames. These two are in their mid 80’s, still going strong and still driving. We had a wonderful visit over exquisite cuisine prepared by Laurie and special wines selected by Pierre from his impressive wine cellar.
Our main course was roast of mutton with a squash veggie mixture followed by a little cheese for the guys and then an “ice” cake made of meringe cookies and raspberry icecream. It was a light, cool meal for a warm summer day. Always cafe and chocolate afterwards outside on the patio. Laurie sets a superb table using lovely Jacquard-Francais linens which by the way, you can purchase at The English Table in Huntsville.
The fun of the day was a lively conversation involving teaching John-Paul to use his year-old phone! So funny to watch the cousins laugh, joke and poke fun at each other. Just a treasure of a good time for Bernie. I struggled to catch the French flying fast and freely among them, but I managed.
We depart tomorrow afternoon for Paris but love every minute of the time we have here. We know that the years are fewer than before and we try to take full advantage of seeing each other whenever possible.
Probably, no blog tomorrow but will catch up on Sunday.
Best,
Linda & Bernie

I’m glad you’ve got Bernie’s relatives to enjoy. What a treat to be able to visit family who live in France! I think we can call that a blessing especially for Bernie, but for you to.
