A Cool, cool day in Paris
Bonjour,
Planning a wardrobe for two months in Paris is always a guessing game. We’ve been here in June when it was in the upper 90’s with no A/C and in July when it was freezing. So I bring a little of this and a little of that and hope for the best. Mostly this time, I think I have missed the mark. It has been much cooler than expected so repeat, repeat and repeat. Natalie left me her blue blazer which has come in handy several days in a row. I really didn’t plan well with shoes. I was determined to be very Parisian this time and wear tennis shoes which have proceeded to give me blisters on my feet, very painful blisters. So by the time I figure something out, the weather will likely have changed. C’est la vie!
Bernie’s son and partner arrive around mid-morning, and we did a little reconnaissance yesterday to check out their hotel, Le Jardin du Marais. I knew where it was because of the year we stayed so far away from rue St. Paul due to Air B&B crazies. Maybe you remember that I was upside down and out of sorts for most of our visit. Their hotel is a 20-25 minute walk from us. They will likely learn to ride the bus or the metro to save time.
Boulevard Beaumarchais is the most direct route and there is really only one good place to eat along that path, Maison Plisson. We had a wonderful green salad and quiche epinard (spinach). Then I had a poached pear swimming in warm chocolate sauce with nuts and raw oats. Close your eyes and be imaginative as I forgot the photos! Where is Natalie when I need her?
Here’s a few photos of the rest of our time out and about as we skirted the rain for most of the day.

We say “Bienvenue” to our guests who plan to spend time looking for an area of the city for permanent residence
Have a great weekend!

Ah yes, the weather in Paris. I remember one June when it was so cold I wore two sweaters at a time. I was living there then and so had all sorts of clothes, but had really planned on bagging up my sweaters and winter coats and putting them into the usual storage, I didnt put things into storage until July that year. and then of course came the hot hot August!! I stayed an extra week in Paris before going “en vacances” to a friend’s house in St Jean de Luz for the rest of August. OMG was it hot that year. No AC of course, so I splurged and bought a fan.. All my French friends had fans. and now I did. It’s been 80 degrees in NY this past week, I am grateful for the AC. While our electricity is going up in price, I know France is even double that. When I lived in Paris one tried to convince oneself that you. really didnt need AC, but boy, there were days! So go to Berthillon and have a melangé, one of my cures for the hot weather. I couldnt have AC but I could have a cool cone! Enjoy..

Shoe repair shops are hard to come by. That’s probably the closet one to our house.
The halfmoon windows in the museum almost look like a projection, but I guess not. Are they?
If you ever see how they train or maintain the climbing ivy, let us know how it’s done.
While a specific ivy plant in Paris could be anywhere from a few years to many decades old, it’s reasonable to assume that some are quite mature, possibly 50 or 60 years old or even older, considering their ability to grow and cover significant portions of buildings over time.
I like the colorful chairs.
Hat of the century. My dermatologist would give it a gold star.
