Hello and Goodbye all in one Paris Day
Bonjour mes amis,
Well, it is summertime in Paris yesterday, today and tomorrow. Absolutely gorgeous, in the 70’s with blue skies, sunshine and masses of people out and about. What a treat given that it is November 1. For an autumn in Paris, this is not what we were expecting but certainly no complaints!
Yesterday we greeted Bernie’s son and his partner at Orly airport as they arrived for about 10 days to help celebrate the big birthday. They will be occupying our regular apartment on rue St. Paul. This morning we wisked Jan & Tony out the door for an 8am taxi departure from our new apartment. We’ve had a great time especially yesterday’s 3.5 hour “lunch” at Le Sargeant Recruituer. It is a totally divine experience with food that is pure art in its taste and presentation. It’s located on Ile St. Louis and has 1 Michelin star. The six of us were seated in the special cellar downstairs. The meal is fabulous, full of one surprise after another. We highly recommend this as a dining extravaganza. And now, the bad news. All the photos are on Tony’s camera, and we forgot to transfer off his chip in all the hustle and bustle of getting them off. Here’s a funny. About 20 minutes after they had left, we heard two loud knocks at the front door, then the doorbell. I rushed to open and found Tony standing there asking if we had Jan’s purse! And we did, just didn’t know it. She had left it sitting on the dining room table and of course her passport was inside. No passport, no plane. He rushed off so I hope they made the flight!!! Bon voyage, and some fun memories yet again.
Today, we did some early morning laundry, then teamed up with James and Stephen for a lunch at a new spot in our apartment vicinity called Chez Janou. Great presentation, food and service. On Trip Advisor, it has a 4 out of 5 rating and is ranked 1901 out of over 13,000 eating places in Paris. Not bad for a street cafe/bistro. Then we walked these two over to purchase subway tickets and rode to the Tuileries subway stop. The walk through the gardens was one of those stop-and-gawk experiences for them as they saw the Louvre, It is Stephen’s first time to Paris so what a treat. We continued over the river to Le Musee d’Orsay and left them to fend for themselves for the next three hours. They will make a subway run back home on their own…we hope.
We finally saw a little color along the river amid this gorgeous day.
