Le Tour de France
Bonjour,
I have been remiss in capturing summer memories on my blog. The culprits are travel, a busy schedule and just plain laziness.
As we approach the conclusion of this year’s Tour de France, I thought it would be fun to cycle back through some of our photos. This year’s finish will be historic, concluding in Nice, France rather than on the Champs Elysées in Paris where we have stood so many times. The reason for this change, of course, is the Olympics.
In the early years of our travels, American flag in hand, we cheered on Lance Armstrong with fervor until, of course, the revelation of his betrayal and deception. We were heartbroken. It changed how we felt about everything, and our zeal has never been the same. Despite that, it’s fun to remember, mais oui? We have stood in glorious weather and pouring rain, fighting for a spot. So many of the fabulous photos were taken on Bernie’s camera early on which I don’t have access to anymore. Hope you enjoy first the parade and then the race.
I have been emailing our friend Hannah Swartz this morning who is in Paris right now and says that it’s a shame we didn’t come in June and early July because there are not nearly as many folks there as this time last year! Alas, who knew? Well, we’ll be going in December for Christmas, New Year’s and the reopening of Notre Dame, God willing and our health stays good.
Stay tuned. During August, I’ll be highlighting extraordinary exhibits we’ve attended, the flood of 2016, our vey special iconic photos which never get deleted, the various apartments where we’ve stayed, and special times with friends.
Have a great rainy day!

Always fun to see the old pictures, some of which we’ve never seen (since we missed the early years). I love your phrase “cycling back” and wonder if it was deliberate or a happy accident. Warm and sunny here in the Great Plains.
