Le Weekend in Alsace, France
Bonsoir,
We have spent a delightful weekend in the Alsace region of France in a lovely village called Soultz. We took the train from Paris to a town very near Soultz and were greeted by Pierre and Laurie Verdier with smiling faces and hugs yesterday afternoon about 6pm. We are very near the German border in a region that has sometimes been in France and sometimes in Germany. The area is known for its regional wines; in fact, Pierre and Laurie have vineyards almost across the street!
The feature highlight of the weekend has been wonderful French food. As always, Laurie sets an exquisite table and prepares culinary delights. And basically, all we’ve done is eat! From homemade cherry preserves to foie gras, from wonderful cheeses of the region to a chestnut cake, we have shared in a bit of gluttony. Today for lunch, Bernie’s other cousins came from Baume les Dames, Jean Paul and Marie Josee Weiss. They are totally French, but notice the German-sounding name, indicative of the area.
We’ve had a special day for Bernie, a time to laugh and speak French with his family. For me, I’ve had the pleasure of understanding much of the French conversation, and that is very rewarding after hours on the computer with Rosetta Stone!
We hope you enjoy meeting Bernie’s family in these pictures and tomorrow we ride to Basel Switerzerland to catch our river cruise down the Rhine. More later IF we have Wi-Fi.
Happy Sunday to all,
L&B

Beautiful photos! Our friends from Paris got in to Huntsville last night and said the weather in France has been unseasonably warm and wonderful. Looks like you’re making good use of that. (I’ve wondered about Rosetta Stone; I’ll have to ask you about it when you get back.)
