Oh-la-la… Les desserts of Paris
Bonjour mes amis,
The heat is a killer for so many of us and I hope you are safe and able to stay cool. Paris would be tough in this kind of heat as A/C is not always available. When we’ve gotten caught in a “canicule” or heat wave, the only reliably cool spot is in Le Monoprix meat market. We sometimes go and just stand around until we feel our body temps coming down.
Perhaps it’s a good day to say something about French desserts which are exquisite in any weather, any time of year. The adjectives that I use the most are exquisite, delightfully light, less sugary, beautiful to see and to taste. Parisian desserts are works of art and can make or break a dinner out. Our two favorites are Île Flottante (mine) and le creme caramel (Bernie), both of which are memories from Bernie’s childhood.
Île flottante is a creamy anglaise topped with meringue and almond slivers.
Here are others which will capture your imagination and hopefully cool you down.
Believe it or not, these are not nearly as high in calories as our desserts. And if you believe that, then I have a piece of property I want to sell you in Arkansas!

It was 102 here in Kansas today, “felt like” 107. We do our necessary errands in the morning and stay safe at home most afternoons. But now you’ve made me hungry, and there’s not a single French dessert in the house!

Thanks for these mouth watering photos. The mousse from chez Janou made me laugh. I had lunch there this past April. I watched as the couple next to me ordered dessert. The woman had the mousse. The server dished out a large portion to her. He asked if she wanted more and she nodded yes. He looked a bit surprised. But, he gave her another large scoop. She finished it all. From listening to their conversation, I think they were from Norway or Sweden, certainly not American.
