Writing Is a Full-Time Job
Dear Friends,
January is almost half over already, and I must admit that I’ve never been busier in my life! I slipped in conversation the other day and made reference to being “retired.” I and the friend I was with both burst out laughing as we simultaneously saw the ludicrousness of that statement. Marketing a book is a full-time job; writing another one at the same time is double insanity! Suddenly, I’m realizing that writing is a full-time job.
Gray, dreary days are good for writing; I have been falling into that other worldness of working for hours on my Paris book to be called, I think, Bernie & Me-A Paris Love Story. It will capture ten years of Paris escapades. I am learning that the writing is easier than the editing. I’m learning that reading aloud is the real test of word choice and arrangement, and I’m learning that getting it perfect to the ear is pure joy. It takes many tries but finally the words produce a harmonious song.
I am also struck with how blessed I am at this stage of my life to have something so invigorating, so challenging, so fulfilling before me. Hard work has never bothered me; making success out of that hard work is another matter entirely. I will keep punching the keyboard and stretching my brain to get it right. Hopefully, before the year is up, I will have struck gold.
In the meantime, it’s me, my keyboard, a cup of coffee, my specks, and an occassional burst of yoga which saves my back.
Watch for Bernie & Me before another January rolls around!
Linda
