An Unforgettable Evening at Le Lido in Paris
Bonjour mes amis,
The days have been hot and tough! But I guess you could say we are tougher or dumber, whatever the case may be. We seem to have made it through the worst (I hope). Sleep is the hardest. Many have suggested an air-conditioned hotel room and one friend even found a close hotel (thanks, Jim) with one room available but I couldn’t convince Bernie. He’s such a Boy Scout! Age and heat are not good bedfellows, however. I have struggled!!
When we left for our big night out yesterday, it was 98 degrees at 5pm I looked great but felt like I had just stepped out of a steam bath with water dripping down my back, etc. Oddly, the heat doesn’t seem to bother the Parisians at all. It’s the tourists who are used to air-conditioning who seem to really struggle.
I offered the suggestion of going on to Fouquet on the Champs for drinks before dinner prior to our actual reservation there since it is right across the street from Le Lido. That proved a good idea and we were able to cool down a bit. We had a simple but good dinner which we shared. We try to “partager” or share as much as we can.
Our tix were for 8pm and the recommendation was to arrive around 7:30 which we did. There were no photos allowed during the show but before it and during the final curtain call. Dummy me, I thought Celion Dion was in the show but was only a character in the show played by someone who did a fabulous job. I love her music so the night was memorable for me in many years. It was risqué, bawdy, funny and loud, and I’m so glad we made this memory. The photos aren’t great but you’ll get the idea. I didn’t get every pun or sexual innuendo but enough to follow the story. How many have seen it on Broadway?

We were actually overdressed but that’s okay and for Paris, the AC was wonderful…nice and cool. We sat with two gay guys from LA and had a fun time with them.
Today it’s still in the 90’s but not 100 so I guess that’s what I’d call “better?” Seems the whole world is about to catch on fire!
Stay cool,
L & B

well, first of all it has been 100 degrees in NYC many days in June this summer! horrible. .. Probably is today but I am still at home in bed. Of course I have AC… but when I lived in France for 10 years I didnt. I did buy fans however and found that with the fans directed at me in bed I was fine. Interestingly, I just read that many Europeans are buying AC now, unheard of before with the high electricity rates.!! But for the few days you really really need it you. need it. My food during the hot days was mostly Berthillon, I didnt eat much, and longed daily for my melange.. (sans accent, guess I cant in your blog!). Ah the Lido.. I vaguely remember my parents taking me there when was in school.. I certainly couldnt have afforded it.. but I remember the sans top women. Never saw that in NYC! Yes. I saw Titanique here. Fun… I doubt if Celine Dion is able to preform anywhere today. Im sure it took all her strength to sing in Paris recently, she is suffering from an incurable disease, I think is called stiff muscle syndrome and has cancelled everything. So sad, she is terrific. Two friends of mine have cancelled trips to Paris now because of the heat. Im off to the Beach for the weekend. Do they still have Paris plague? Do buy some fans, they really are okay, And of course the usual of close the shades ( or shutters o if in older apt) and keep your apartment as dark as possible. And then toward 6 when sun is down open all windows and breathe. Little consolation,,, but buy fans! And ice cream from Berthillon!

Ellyn, we have four fans, and I insist on closing the big by window drape that we have. Bernie disagrees. 100 degrees is just hard to deal with especially at night. Titanique had no nudity but was pretty wild.

Linda,
Sounds like you found a wonderful show and were able to take despite from the heat. In New York they definitely did not allow photos during the show. We saw people getting called out by the ushers. As to the dress for your show, we encountered the same in NYC. Ah, the times they are a changing.

Thanks, Linda.
Temp was about the same in London, but being on the river helped.

That sounds like a great time. A little something different to take home. Thanks for showing this to us.
I read where the Lido nudity is described as more ‘artistic’ and with less feathers than the Moulin Rogue. Kind of like buying Playboy for the articles. Thank you.

There was no nudity at all in last night’s performance. Close when Jack was painting Rose.

I’m so sorry it’s been so hot. That can really make or break the day!! I vote for the hotel during these heat waves!

Linda Im sure it is hard to deal with. When I am out during the day it is blazingly hot here, but I come home to AC so I can deal I remember being in Paris without AC, and my friends told me I would get used to it. I didnt !! .. heat is depleting. And it wasnt as hot then as it is now. All I can say is fans and hydrate. Water water water! it has gotten cooler here, it is in the 80s. imagine saying 80s is cooler! take care, I worked in Marrakech one summer during school, and that was hotter. I tried to follow the Arab way of life that my friends suggested….. that of keeping my body core the same as the outside by drinking hot beverages ( in that case hot mint tea ) and eating hot foods, I tried hard, every thing was hot.. my body core was hotter!.. but it didnt work for me, and I spent all my extra money ( of which there was little ) buying ice cold coke and spending more for ice cubes. ( they charged for ice cubes!)..
