Celebrating a cooler Paris on Sunday
Bonsoir,
We’ve had a much cooler Sunday with even a little bit of rain. The city came alive this afternoon and evening as everyone was out and about enjoying the cool breeze. It has been so dry for so long that the trees are beginning to lose their leaves, and it looks like autumn in some areas! It has been so hot that people were sluggish and staying inside; Paris just hasn’t been Paris for this entire first week.
We began our Sunday by going to the 11 o’clock service at the American Cathedral in Paris. I’ve written about this church so much before; it’s lovely and one of our favorites, with a state flag and prayer bench for each state in the Union. We took no pics today as we arrived just in time for the start of the service. The choir and music are always outstanding partly due to the ecoustics. After church, we walked just a few blocks to Chez Andre on Rue Marboeuf and enjoyed outside dining for the first time since we arrived. Just wonderful!
This afternoon we found another of the Art Nouveau houses in the 18th arrondissment which is not one of the better areas of Paris. Bernie’s comment was that we had saved “the worst til last.” This house was located at 185 rue Belliard. Bernie was correct that this house was not dramatically beautiful but I would argue that if it had been located in a better area, it might have been cleaned with freshly painted shutters and an overall presentation that was much more appealing. We’ll find one more house and end on a better note…ha!
After a snack dinner in, we walked for about an hour across the river and back around to the St. Paul area. Enjoy these shots of a breezy, fun Paris with the sunlight dancing its less sultry dance.
Again, we hope everyone had a great 4th of July!
A tout a l’heure,

Congratulations on a cooler Paris!
I read a story in the NYTimes this morning about the Bondy Blog. If you haven’t heard about it, it was created in 2005 during the riots in France. It has over 220,000 visitors a month. It was created to give a voice to those underrepresented in mainstream news media. It was an interesting article.

Love hearing about yours days. I just hope the weather doesn’t heat back up. We were supposed to go to Sewanee for our usual party, but weather was definitely hampering even the decision to have the party or not. I hoped our hostess, really thought, would call by early evening on Saturday. She didn’t. We didn’t go. When I opened my e-mail, well….if we wanted to “brave” the elements going or coming, we were welcome and would eat inside instead of out but lunch would start about noon. It was already 3 PM, so… Ted’s was good, here.
Merren, Mike, and Caroline were here for about 2 hours on Friday. We went to Cosco. They went on to see Sarah in Manchester. And life went on.
So….I see a reply already from you, and I didn’t , think I’d sent this yet. I do have an excuse, a nice one. I’ve got a new computer. It types so quickly, even though it’s me doing it. And, I got a new printer and have gotten it going with Jay’s help and….as soon as he left…jammed it!
Hope your day tomorrow is great.
