Creeping Temperatures in a Dry, Hot Paris
Bonjour,
For mid-June, it’s very hot in Paris and very dry which adds to the pollution and dusty aura around Paris. Also the dog poop on the sidewalks! Yes, you have to trod carefully.
Yesterday, we did laundry, of course, because it was Monday! Our washing machine is unusual by Paris standards. Typically, a load takes around two hours but we have a 45-minute cycle which cleans beautifully! Lucky us. Instead of all day, we get done in a morning. Lugging wet clothes to the dryer blocks down the street is just part of the routine for us.

After an early lunch and a brief rest, we did reconnaissance for our day tomorrow with Pat Sims showing her around Paris. We did not know the Goyard shop for fine purses (I’m the worst at haute couture fashion). We found it on rue St. Honorée along with all the up-scale parts of that route off rue de Rivoli.
We met our dear neighbor and friend Chantal for an aperitif at 7, then grocery shopped and off to bed.
I’ve been having a slight problem with my web site and WordPress which is the program I use. Many thanks to my responsive webmaster, Carrie Alderfer in Huntsville. And of course to my friend Nona Purdue for putting us in touch many years ago. I’m not a genius when it comes to all of this so having a back-up crew is essential.
The guys made it home with no problems, and we are awaiting our next round of company, Bernie’s cousins from Alsace arriving on June 24.
Bonne journée

ah..I love my Giyard tote. when I was a student in Paris I helped a friend of my mother’s who lost her wallet .i took her to the Am Emvassy to get a new passport, went to the Police with her, she didn’t speak French..Anyway, to thank me she bought me a Goyard tote. Goyard was not known outside of France then, so when I went back to NYC people remarked on it. and I have had a Goyard tote ever since. thankfully they last forever and carry so much. no longer a curiosity, they are sold all over. love mine, and bring back memories!

oh..and Angelina… best hot chocolate ever. I couldnt afford it as a student, but everytime my parents friends or my parents came, I made sure to take them there. there are now a couple of Angelinas in NYC…one unfortunately right on my way to the subway, just a few blocks away. so delish! still expensive, but I’m working now! and Ladurée is but 10 streets away.

The window fashions seem to be casual, and we might not need irons. And we’d better get our fringe on. Remember way-back-when that we had Mother-Daughter dresses? Now it will be Mother-Doggy wear, I guess. :o) Stay cool. Kansas is having pouring rain, which is destroying the wheat harvest.

PS … Stay away from the Louvre…

Lugging wet laundry. Ugh! When we lived in a flat one summer in Paris it had a combination washer/dryer. It was great to have in house; however, it did have its downsides. It had a small capacity (about 3 bath towels) so it took many loads for my husband, myself and 3 daughters. At least the kids clothes were smaller sized! Also, for all those things you can’t dry I had to string up all over the flat. Luckily the flat was huge. But it did mean I had to wash every 2-3 days. Don’t think I’m complaining- it was great to keep the laundry in house. There is a reason that laundry day was on Monday 150 yrs ago. It took so much strength to do, that you did it after your day of rest!
