Fifteen Thousand Paris Steps With Isabella
Cher mes amis,
Yesterday began about 9:30 when our guests, Michelle, Bill, and Isabella Shory came to us in Le Marais. They are staying in the beautiful and very Americanized Marriott on Les Champs, and we wanted to introduce them to true Parisian life in our apartment. After the “oohs” and “wows” to our 16th century apartment building, they struck out with us for a tour of the area, then a first look for Isabella at the river Seine, Ile St. Louis, Notre Dame, the Shakespeare bookstore, the fountain at St. Michel, back to St. Chapelle and finally to an authentic Lebanese restaurant for dinner saluting Bill’s heritage. We had an amazing, full day which ended for us at 9:30pm. They were planning to do a few more things…oh-là-là!
How often do you get to tour with a 9-year old who never whines or fidgets, who listens to every word of conversation but rarely says anything, never interrupts, has her Paris scavenger hunt book where she’s looking for special discoveries and answering questions, taking her own pictures with her own camera and sneaking a video of everyone when we weren’t looking? What a delightful child. She walked without complaint all of our fifteen thousand steps and took it all in. Truly a pleasure to have her in our midst.
Enjoy our pics. My favorite street scene of the day is the last one of the pigeons enjoying some expensive macarons!
Today is Montmartre! Stay tuned.

My vote for favorite picture today is Bernie with the pigeons. However, the church windows and intricate wood work is a close second. 15,000 steps! No wonder you and Bernie stay so trim.

The windows take your breath away. I can’t imagine the years it took to make them. Beautiful photos!!!

The stained glass windows are just amazing.
And what was that down the back of Bernie’s shirt? 🙂

Bernie, I can see a family resemblance with your relative between the two photos here. Thank you for the musicians a couple of days ago.

Perfect timing. We just hosted a 2 ½ year old little boy for several days – little boys are insane. I’m sure Isabella will remember her tour of Paris with you and Bernie for a long time. Good going. The stained glass and architecture were about as good as I remember you showing. We just don’t take the time to do stuff like that anymore. Looks like direct sunlight will shine through at least one side all day long. Are those last two pigeons eating macaroons?

The popular French cookie is called a macaron but is different from our macaroon…no cocoanut. Yes, the pigeons were going after some cookies that had been dropped, we presume. An expensive treat for them.

Ooooh-la-la! What delightful photos…all catching Parisian life in a wonderful way! I always look forward to “our” annual trip to Paris! Just when you think you’ve seen it all…you capture yet another fabulous nuance of this thriving city!

Wonderful and love the scavenger hunt finds!
Can’t wait to read about your day up on the hill. Wonder if Bernie had a cheese plate!?
Makes me so nostalgic for when my son was your young visitor’s age. Cheers to you all for these precious times.

The stain glass – incredible art. Love hearing of your 9 year old friend. Her parents should give lessons.
