Here and There in Le Marais On New Year’s Eve
Happy New Year, friends near and far!
We wish for you a happy, healthy and productive New Year. We have exactly one week remaining and it will be busy connecting with friends before we depart on January 8th. The weather is still chilly, BUT we haven’t had any rain in ten days or so. That is fabulous. This photo was taken this morning at 8:30am outside our kitchen window just as dawn was breaking. Temp: 39 degrees.
Boulevard Beaumarchais is a wonderful street running through the Marais starting at the Bastille and gives evidence to the wonderful doors that grace Paris.
Other street scenes along rue de Turenne and Boulevard Beaumarchais.
One blog follower asked about decorations for Hanukkah. My response was that we really had not seen any, but I set out to test that statement. Nowhere better to do this than on the rue de Rosiers, street of the rose bushes. And there they were if you chose to look for them. It’s one of our top five areas in Paris!
We made yet another stop at Ricola for cough drops. We believe that Bernie is finally better. We celebrated New Year’s Eve in the late afternoon with a soirée at our friend Hannah’s apartment. She lives near Pont Malibeau. We had such a delightful evening: pink champagne, foie gras, other tasty hors d’oeuvres and the remaining bouche de Noël from Christmas Day for dessert. Hannah made it VERY special by asking us to participate in her Hanukkah devotional at sundown. She lit a candle on the menorah while I read the story that accompanied it. We were touched that she chose to share this with us!!!
As to watching the fireworks from Les Champs Elysées on television, Bernie took it in but alas, I made it to 11pm! Oh, to be young again.
We don’t know quite what to expect today in Paris. What will be open and what will be closed?
A bientôt

I am glad Bernie has gotten better.. Of course to my mind it would have been faster with chicken soup!
As to what is open today in Paris, most of the stores, actually probably all save food are closed. They dont have the same what should I call it, the same driving capitalism that the US has. I mean when I started living in Paris and I found out tht Berthillon, an ice cream store for Petes sake, closed down in AUGUST, the height of the season, I knew I was in a different place! Ice cream stores might closed in Jan-Feb, but never in the height of the season in the US!
New York was rainy and cold on NYE, sounds like you were luckier in Paris!
Happy healthy safe New Year to you both, and to anyone on your blog who reads this!
take care, wear sweaters! And enjoy your remaining time.
Love the pictures of the doors, but I love all your pictures

Only God knows, Katie. Age is not our friend and health is the key as you know.

We really enjoyed seeing all of the Hanukkah decorations. Guess that Ricola store came in handy! We hope you’ll both be feeling prime soon. Happy New Year!

I so enjoyed the wide awry of photos from New Years Eve day outings. They were varied, interesting and attractive. Your friend Hannah sounds like a lovely person. How nice you enjoyed part of New Years Eve with her. We got to celebrate ours in Kalamazoo, Mi with Cam and his wonderful family. We had good food served on lovely dishes and glasses. Our night centered around football games, children and dogs. We had a little snow as well. I too faded around 11pm. Happy New Year to you and Bernie
