You can bet that when I don’t post it’s directly related to the weather. After a couple of really lousy days-cold, gray and rainy, we finally had some decent weather with sunshine. So here are some catch-up photos to start your weekend. It is our last one as we will depart on the 8th. It will be a busy time between now and then enjoying soirées with friends. I will write a final post as I always do reflecting on the trip. Be thinking about your favorite Christmas decoration to share.
Bernie is slightly better but still not all the way to being well. He is plagued with a terrible cough which is worse at night. He will see the doctor again on Monday. It’s been a long haul for him.
I will let the photo captions tell the story so that I can be quick. Today is laundry day…my favorite!!
La Sorbonne on Boulevard St. Michel
Lunch at Le Choupinet, the place of the teddy bears where many of you have eaten with us. We decided not to walk across the street to the Luxembourg Gardens because I didn’t want to see it dressed in winter gray.
One of the prettiest subway stations
Dinner at L’liot Vache, the place of the cows. When I said to the manager that we remembered when all the flowers were real, instead of artificial, he looked at me in shock! That was twenty years ago!
Next day amid glorious sunshine through Le Palais Royal
Isn’t this a lovely door knocker? The rooster is a national symbol for France. We ate at Vaudeville Bistrot on rue Vivienne across the street from La Bourse or their Wall Street. This was the complimentary appetizer, little “shrimps”, which we didn’t quite know how to eat. They had to be delicately peeled which we deemed a lot of work for one tiny bite.
This photo captures a by-gone time when having a telephone available in a restaurant was a must for a business lunch spot.Lovely classic French interior. They were jammed as Hannah said was true every day.
We speculated these iron railings were hitching posts for horses years ago, but that’s a guess. Our Lady of Victories Church. Louis XIII laid the first stone in 1629. Be sure to read the commentary about the church.I am always amazed at the size of the doors.
Romanesque style with all the writing in Latin
We retraced our steps back through Galerie Vivienne and then Le Palais Royal
This was a performance group doing interpretive dance in 30-degree weather. Very enjoyable. This is where Jim and Peggy Bilbro love to dance on Sunday afternoons!
Beautiful subway station with Murano glass
This church is at Le Louvre and the site of David and Victoria Beckham’s wedding. We got caught in this madness years ago when trying to return a rental car. It took us like 3 hours!
The day began and ended with glorious sunshine. We loved our lunch and afternoon with Hannah.
This evening will be spent with our dearest friend and former neighbor, Chantal, at Sorza. In just now looking at the weather forecast, it has the symbol for snow at 7pm which is when we will be crossing the river to Ile St. Louis for dinner. Perhaps I will get my final wish!
What glorious pictures, Thank you. Love them all. And yes the doors are huge and glorious.
Dont forget the sales, starting now. Everything on sale goes down at least to half price. With the price of Hermes scarves so incredibly high, my days of picking them up in the January sales are long over! Ive started wearing mine again, I have boxes to go thru!
Enjoy your last days in Paris, and thank you so much for the glorious pictures.

Oh my goodness- did it snow?! Love the dynamite dresses, your purple scarf, pics of you/Bernie/Hannah and sunshine! I don’t recall the church at LeLouvre but it was gorgeous and the stained glass appeared pink/purple! So sorry Bernie is still struggling. Sorry to have missed a few posts…overwhelmingly busy since 12/26! Stay safe and health(er) a little longer!! Hug Chantal for me too 🙂
I’m so happy you are getting a few good weather days to end your trip, and spending time with friends. I hate to tell you but both Bob and Chad have battled the chest congestion condition for 6 weeks. Bob made his 4th Doc in a Box trip here in Kalamazoo, Mi. Hope Bernie gets some relief.
Look forward to seeing you both back in Huntsville.
Love, Cindi
Hurrah for the sun!! The churches are awe inspiring. You’ll be returning to sun, but bitter temps also. Thanks for a throughly enjoyable travelogue. Safe travels home. Love you both.
Glad to hear from you. I so look forward to your day’s adventures. I’m not familiar with some of the restaurants you’ve eaten at this time. Maybe list your top 3 in your summary. I’m always looking for new finds for my next visit. Selfishly I’m sorry you’re going home. I’ll miss your writing and pictures.
Sunny days well spent! I loved all the random photos of places we hold dear. L’Ilot Vauche is one of our favorite restaurants. We look forward to seeing you both when you get home.
