Passau along the Danube
Bonjour mes amis,
Still trying to catch up with some of our wonderful pictures. We are on our last day today in Budapest and finally were hit with rain showers this morning. It’s the first time weather has been anything but beautiful, so we cannot complain.
Here’s a little tour of Passau, an old medieval town with a rich history and little damage from the world wars. All the structures are built of masonry instead of wood, so the town has never burned down. It was a huge center for salt. Through the ages, the citizenry have been quite wealthy and competed as to who could build the tallest tower. It is known as a city of three rivers, where the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz all come together. It is best known for St. Stephen’s Cathedral with an organ of 18,000 pipes.
Here are more pics of St. Stephen’s.
The Danube Gorge is a beautiful spot along the river. Pics to come later along with Vienna and Budapest.
Here’s a fun picture of Bernie and me at dinner on the riverboat, the Viking Var.

Next to the picture of you and Bernie, the pictures of the church and the organ are my favorite. I do hope the flood waters in Paris have receded by the time you return.

Loved Budapest when I was there in ’87, even though it was still behind the Iron Curtain and the presence of soldiers was felt everywhere.
