Another Hot Day in Paris
Bonjour,
Our time outside today in Paris was limited to just a couple of hours as the temperature is soaring to 97 degrees. The frustrating part is that for us there’s no place to hide… sweltering both inside and out with very high humidity. We strongly considered going to the meat/seafood market at the Monoprix (large grocery store) and just standing around…ha! It’s coat-wearing cold in there. Oddly enough, we keep all the apartment windows closed with the fan blowing to keep the hot air out. That appears to work best. Mind you, we’re not complaining or trying hard not to anyway. Rain is not expected for Paris until Sunday when hopefully it will cool down significantly, and we will be able to better navigate our usual schedule.
Last evening Bernie captured a lovely photo along Les Champs Elysees of L’Arc de Triomphe at sunset. It’s the “featured image” at the top of the blog.
Continuing on with a little about new art (Art Nouveau), today’s house was located at 29 Avenue Rapp in the 7th arrondissment near the Eiffel Tower. It is referred to as the Lavirotte Building and is one of the most “eccentric and whimsical” examples of this architectural style. Supposedly, the front door is suggestive of male genitals. Maybe you can use your imagination! Kudos to Bernie for getting these shots. The streets are very narrow, the buildings very tall and with many trees in the way. It is difficult to get any perspective.
Just down the block, we found another very interesting structure which was part book store and part home to the Costa Rican consulate. There’s always a serendipity just around every corner.
We’re in pursuit of a cool place to have dinner as cooking in this hot little kitchen is out of the question!
By the way, if anyone knows how to access French accent marks using a bluetooth keyboard with an iPad, please chime in. My apologies to my French scholar friends who are reading the blog!
Hoping for cooler weather,
Linda & Bernie

I sit here this morning reading your blog as my Saf-t-net app is blowing up my phone. Rain rain go away!!! It promises to be a very wet 4th. There was a breakfast food truck event planned for downtown this morning. All outdoor activities are looking bleak. Bob and I are perusing the movie choices right now.
The photos of the architecture of the buildings you have selected are quite intricate and interesting. Wishing cooler times ahead for you & Bernie.

Amazing building. Bernie’s sunset shot was superb. Looks like we’re due for a soggy fourth. C will try to get fireworks shots tomorrow if the rain subdues. Praying for more comfortable temps for you.

Linda, you can actually download a French keyboard for your Bluetooth keyboard. it takes a little getting used to, but that is the only way that I have found to get the accents in.

Thx,Jim. I’ll pass on that as I’ve tried to type on the French keyboard many times. It drives me crazy!

Hard to believe we were walking around in sweaters this time last year. Say hi to Richard for us. Stay cool best you can. Stan

Love these buildings, especially the one with the three dimensional ironwork. I’ve never managed to get a good shot of it. Perhaps this year with my new lens. Tell Bernie he took some lovely photos. And yes, I do see the genital reference on the door.
We arrive Sunday, so you are guaranteed two things: the temps will drop and the Euro will rise! It happens every time we go to Europe.

Can’t wait to see you. Will you be up for dinner on Sunday night? We will be leaving to go see Pierre & Laurie on Wednesday for just 3 days. Then in Paris the rest of the time.

I am really enjoying seeing Paris through “your eyes”!!
Bernie’s pictures are stunning and your “history/architect lessons” are so informative. It certainly points out to me how much we missed when we were in Paris.!
I can hardily wait for your next blog!

Bernie just gets better and better! Great shots! I know how hard it is to take photos with perspiration dripping down your forehead.

I don’t have a bluetooth keyboard but the shortcuts for the regular one should work as well. While holding down Alt, type the shortcut key, then type the letter you want accented. Here is the table, using letter ‘a’ for the example:
Alt+`, a gives à
Alt+e, a gives á
Alt+i, a gives â
Alt+u, a gives ä
Alt+n, a gives ã
finally Alt+c gives ç
Give it a try. Really enjoying your reports and photos.
